I actually shoot a 21 year Mathews and was planning on switching to the Hoyt because of all the reviews the past few years. The Hoyt RX7 Ultra 34 is a great bow and is definitely a step up from the Mathews VXR 28. The Hoyt RX7 has a much smoother draw, and it is also longer and more forgiving. If you're looking to upgrade your bow, the RX7 is definitely worth it.

If you have a V3X like me, I personally wouldn’t buy a Phase 4. It would be cheaper to add limb dampeners between the limbs or buy an adjustable stab, like the crossover stabs on my V3X. If you don’t have a Phase 4, it is one of the top 2 bows Ive shot this year. The Hoyt VTM 31 and Phase 4 29 are still the top of the class in my opinion.

I’d go with the Hoyt, from my testing, the Hoyt VTM 31 was faster and quieter than all of the bows I tested. Those bows were the VTM 31, Execute 30, Ominia, Era, Carbon One, and SS 34. I picked up my new Mathews Phase 4 29" on Monday. I went into my local shop and shot the Phase 4 29/33 and the VTM 31. The draw cycle seemed a touch better on the VTM but the back wall and hold felt incredible on the Phase 4's. I bumped up from 60# to 70# so I didn't hold the draw cycle of the Mathews against it.
